Career & Technical Education Conference

So honored to have been chosen the 2013 SDATFACS Outstanding Teacher in Community Service and the SDACTE Outstanding Teacher in Community Service. I also received an award for being a 5 year member of SDACTE.  What a great summer, was honored with the Master Adviser award at the National FCCLA Conference in July, 2013 as well.  So thankful for my family, students, school, job, and town!
Thank you to Cenex/Harvest States Foundation for sponsoring this state award!

Welcome to FACS!

Welcome to FACS!  I've been pretty impressed with myself that I've been getting my classroom ready before August rolls around!  I decided to do the classroom in red black and white (and as Sierra S. would say, her favorite color, which is zebra, haha).
I found this template for a Zebra welcome sign on Pinterest.   I tried to find the link again but was unable to.  It was in teal writing but I cut out the blue with a utility knife and rubber cemented them onto red construction paper.  The bunting is just red and black construction paper.  The zebra curtains are from Walmart.  As you can see form all of the books that are out I have a ways to go, but a little cuteness is a good reason to get everything ready to go.

In Our Classroom

What did I do before Pinterest?  I found this great idea for an "In Our Classroom!" display. This sign will now greet the HHS students when they enter the FACS room!  I would like to thank the creator of this sign (creeksideteachertales.blogspot.com).  Each of the statements fits the type of classroom that I strive for, especially the last one.  My students really are an extension of my family! :)

2013 National FCCLA Qualifiers - Highmore FCCLA

Hello!
This blog will be a post of classroom activities at Highmore High School in the FACS Department, along with FCCLA (Family, Career, & Community Leaders of America) happenings (and maybe a little bit of prom).  For the first post, I have to congratulate four of my amazing students for doing amazing at the National Leadership Conference in Nashville in July.  Kaitlyn, Natalie, Samantha, and Zoe received the Gold and Silver Medals for their Recycle and Redesign and Chapter Showcase projects.  Way to go Highmore FCCLA! :)
